May 1st was the beginning of our annual Canadian Corvette invasion at Watkins Glen. A total of 10 Corvette’s and one Ford GT made the trek down in the pouring rain. After a mandatory stop at duty free we were through customs and on the road to Watkins.
We arrived at the historic Senca lodge to pick up the keys to our rustic A-frame cottages. Lauri (our track mom) baked her amazing lasagna for everyone, it was great to have a home cooked meal so far from Ontario. We scavenged up some firewood and sparked up our traditional WG campfire. Half the fun on these trips is sitting around with everyone sharing stories, jokes, and just enjoying each others company. We called it an early night since we had to be up for 5:30am to head to the track.
Contrary to the weather forecast the skies held out on Monday for a few dry sessions on the track. Everyone seemed to be happy to have their cars back out stretching their legs after the long winter. After a great day we packed up and headed back to the Seneca for dinner. I’m sure the entire restaurant was wondering who let all the loud Canadians in but we had a ton of fun recounting our experiences from the day. Me and Mark tried our best to get the fire going but it took the magic touch from Steve (who had lots of experience making fires in the girl scouts) to get it going. Another great night of laughs!
The next morning we woke up to rainy, cold, and gloomy skies. We all decided that it wasn’t going to be any fun running the cars in the pouring rain so we packed up and headed back home. Overall it was a great trip with a great group of people! I’ve never laughed so much and had so much fun. Hopefully I’ll be able to join everyone out on the track soon when I get my car! Looking forward to 2012 already.
