*If you aren’t into reading feel free to browse through the collages of photos, one from each month, with one or two photos from each of the shoots I have done this year. If you have been following my work during 2012 you will recognize most of the events and shoots. Thank you for your support!*
Trying to change the settings on a Digital SLR when it’s -15 is very challenging, especially with numb fingers! On the bright side there was a brand new Ferrari 599 SA Aperta sitting in front of my lens, so I really can’t complain. This is how I kicked off the year 2012, my third year doing my business full time. It’s hard to try and sum up a year filled with so many shoots and experiences, but I’ll give it a shot!
Sometimes I have to take a step back and look at my life from an outside perspective. Since the age of 14 I have grown up around high priced exotics, but to this day I still get the same feeling in my stomach when I see one passing me on the highway (except now I wonder if I know them, and if not how I can get in touch with them haha). I am very grateful for the journey my business has taken me on, looking back I never would have thought it was possible to make a living doing what I love.
This year was full of incredible events, shoots, trips, experiences, conversations, and photos. I won’t bore everyone with all the details, but I wanted to share my favourite experience from the year:
Usually when my alarm goes off at 5:30am I curse the world and want to throw my alarm at the wall, but this day I jumped out of bed for good reason. After getting into the passenger seat of a beautiful yellow Ferrari 458 Spider we made our way to the start of the “Palms to Pines” highway in Palm Springs, California. With the flick of a carbon fiber paddle were on our way up the mountain with zero traffic and more importantly zero CHP officers. I have had some great experiences in my career, but this was by far one of my favourites. The smell of the leather, the crisp mountain air, the sun coming up over the horizon, the note of the exhaust near redline, everything came together to create a pretty much religious experience! It was a moment that all my hard work and dedication had lead me to, and I will never forget it. To this day when I play the video, crank up the volume, close my eyes, and put myself back into that seat, I have giant smile on my face.
I want to personally thank every single person who has “liked” a photo, commented on a status, tweeted, instagrammed, +1’d a post, anything and everything. I am so grateful for all your support and all these gestures – however small – really mean a lot to me. I would not be where I am today if it wasn’t for my faithful family, friends, clients, and supporters! I still have many goals I want to achieve and endless things to learn, but knowing that I have such a solid base of people behind me really motives me to do my best.
That’s my mushy piece for the year! Looking forward to more great photos and experiences in 2013.
All the best,
Lucas Scarfone
